Congressman Oberstar & Town Hall Meetings

I believe Congressman Oberstar has demonstrated a lack of courage for not having a Town Hall Meeting during the recess.

According to the Duluth News Tribune.
The paper reports:
"[Oberstar] typically does not do townhalls per say [sic]," [said spokesman John Schadl.]
Oberstar prefers forums with specific focus groups or interested parties, such as a forum he did last week in Pine City with farmers on dairy issues, Schadl said. "These town hall meetings have become so politicized, and he finds it so valuable to reach out to people when he travels, talk to them directly."
Schadl said that Oberstar has had numerous meetings with constituency groups on health care reform in the past year.
Of course, Oberstar is a 17-term DFLer in a DFL district.

Holiday Gas Station

An employee at Holiday told me that Holiday wants to build a new station at the 169 and 95 Highway interchange and the Princeton city council will not allow them to build until a big box store is out there. I will have to do some more checking on this. I will let you know what I find out.

Accident kills 1, injures 2 others

This is JoBeth Miller. She was a close friend of my daughter's. At 4:30 yesterday, she was killed when the car she was a passenger in lost control and rolled. The Driver and another passenger were airlifted to the hospital. The driver was going 110 mph down the middle of a gravel road, and swerved to miss a school bus, which is when he lost control. The car rolled end over end, and crashed into a telephone pole. JoBeth died at the scene, and the other passenger was airlifted to Memorial Hospital in the Twin Cities. she has 8 broken vertebrae, punctured lungs, and can only feel her feet. she has a 50-50 chance at surviving. The driver is at home, battered and bruised.

The funeral will be held Monday, March 6th at 11am at St. Edward's Catholic Church

Please remember the families of these 3 individuals in your prayers.

Fire at Princeton Church

Flames broke out at church in Princeton this morning doing more than $100,000 in damage and it appears that burglars might be to blame. The fire started at Princeton United Methodist Church at 112 7th Avenue North this morning after a break-in last night, police tell 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS. However, police say, it’s too early to tell whether or not this is a case of arson. But , the blaze is being called suspicious. There was not much visible damage on the outside, but witnesses tell 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that damage on the inside is extensive. About a dozen seniors were at the church in the morning and smelled smoke, according to police. Nobody was hurt in the blaze. Several items are reported missing. There are no signs that this fire was any kind of statement or hate crime. "I am always wondering why a person would do that," said the Rev. Dan Hair, of the Princeton United Methodist Church. "…But we need to reach out to these people and let the community know that we are going to go on…this is not going to set us back."
